Construction stormwater permit
Tennessee's NPDES general permit for stormwater discharges from construction activities covers construction site operators whose clearing, grading, or excavation results in an area of disturbance of one or more acres, and activities that disturb less than one acre if part of a larger common plan of development or sale.

Aquatic Resource Alteration Permit program
Tennessee's Aquatic Resource Alteration Permit, administered by TDEC's Division of Water Resources, covers alterations to a stream, river, lake or wetland. The division may revoke, suspend or modify a permit for violation of permit conditions or any other provision of the Tennessee Water Quality Control Act of 1977, which is listed as Tennessee Code Annotated section 69-3-108 among the program's related publications. When a federal Section 404 permit is required from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, a state Section 401 certification must first be obtained from the division.

Adopted construction codes
Tennessee's currently adopted codes include the 2021 International Building Code and the 2018 International Residential Code, with amendments. Rule 0780-2-2, Rules for Adopted Codes and Standards, and Tennessee Code Annotated section 68-120-101, the Statute for Statewide Building Construction Safety Standards, are named as the rule and statute for the state's adopted codes. The State Fire Marshal's Office filed rules with the Secretary of State to update the state's minimum codes, which became effective April 17, 2025. Amendments to the 2021 International Building Code provide that where ASCE 7-16 is referenced for seismic design or mapped ground accelerations, ASCE 7-22 mapped ground accelerations may be used to determine the S1 and Ss values.
